Online play is currently not functional, at least not on the app. Not sure what the state of the desktop application's online play is. It's been on the back burner since our main network play guy disappeared and since I've been focusing on Planar Conquest.

Hey Dan,

I saw that you added a filter for basic lands in the AEther, is that too restrictive with Wastes? Not really sure how Conquests work in that regard.

I'd prefer to add Wastes to the Add Basic Lands dialog if your commander is colorless.

Re: Forge Android App: 03-20-2016 Alpha 1.5.51.001

Postby drdev » 20 Mar 2016, 21:32

I just released 1.5.51.001, which contains some significant enhancements and tweaks for Planar Conquest based on feedback I've received so far.

Select Planeswalker Screen
  • A new "Planeswalkers" item has been added to the main Planar Conquest drop down menu which opens this screen
  • You can change to any Planeswalker whose card you've unlocked
  • Your selection determines your avatar on the plane map and the card you can cast from the command zone in Planeswalker games
    PlaneswalkerSelect.png

AEther Shard Rework
  • AEther shard values for different rarities are now more deterministic
  • They are now based on the combination of a base value and a multiplier, all configurable in preferences
  • The default base value for Commons is still 100 (which you receive for duplicates), with multipliers of 3, 10, and 25 respectively for Uncommons, Rares, and Mythics (so 300, 1000, and 2500 for duplicates)
  • The "Markup Percentage" preference has been replaced with "Base Pull Cost", with a default of 200 (so 2x duplicate value, rather than the old 1.5x default)
    ConquestPrefs2.png

AEther Filters Rework
  • The reason for the increased base pull cost is that the color, type, and CMC filters on the AEther screen will no longer be penalized and will actually be required
  • The corresponding penalty preferences have been removed
  • The color filter has been reworked to offer all 5 colors, all 10 two-color combinations, all 10 three-color combinations, and a five-color option (the colorless option has been removed)
  • The color filter now filters out cards that aren't playable with a Commander of the chosen color identity, so you'll never have to worry about pulling cards you can't play (for example, if you select {R} {W}, you'll only get cards with color identity of colorless, mono-white, mono-red, or red-white)
  • The color filter will default to the color identity of your current commander/deck
  • The type filter no longer offers a separate "Land" option, with it instead being combined with the old "Artifact, Enchantment, or Planeswalker" option into a single "Noncreature Permanent" option (you can still aim for lands by using a 0-3 CMC filter, and the color filter will ensure you receive lands playable for your colors)
  • Fixed it so you'll no longer receive basic lands from the AEther
  • The rarity filter now specifies a minimum rarity rather than a fixed rarity, with each option including the odds for each rarity, which is determined based on booster ratios
  • The rarity filter selection is the sole determination of pull cost (so with default preferences, Common costs 200, Uncommon costs 600, Rare costs 2000, and Mythic costs 5000)
  • If you get lucky and pull a Rare or Mythic despite selecting Common, you're still only charged the cost of a Common (so 200 by default)
    AEtherFilters.png

Exile/Retrieve Support
  • On the Collection screen, you can now "exile" cards you don't need or want in exchange for AEther shards
  • The amount of shards you receive is based on the combination of a new "Base Exile Value" preference and the rarity multiplier preferences, with the default being 75 shards (or 75% of what you get for duplicates in boosters)
  • Exiled cards are still considered unlocked, so you won't pull them again from the AEther, and you'll still receive shards for duplicates that show up in boosters
  • Exiled cards cannot be used in decks, chosen as a Commander, or chosen as a Planeswalker (they will be filtered out of those screens)
  • Cards already used in decks, Commanders that have decks built, and your current Planeswalker cannot be exiled (you'll be informed as much if you try to exile such cards, so you'll need to first remove the card from any decks containing it, clear its deck (if it's a Commander), or change to a different Planewalker before you'll be allowed to exile it)
  • Exiled cards will still appear on the Collection screen but will be faded out and have the "Exile" icon displayed over top of their art
  • You can "retrieve" exiled cards at any time from the Collection screen for a shard cost based on the combination of a new "Base Retrieve Cost" preference and the rarity multiplier preferences, with the default being 150 shards (or twice what you received for exiling it)
  • Once retrieved, you can then use the card in decks, build and select a deck if its a Commander, or use it as a Planeswalker, just as if you'd never exiled it (you can also exile it again later if you change your mind again)
    ExileRetrieve.png

Thanks to everyone whose feedback helped shape this update. Hope everyone is enjoying Planar Conquest and I look forward to polishing it more in the coming months with your help.
-Dan

EDIT: Just released .002 with a quick fix so you can't retrieve cards from exile if you lack the necessary shards.

jtrowell wrote:I love the new planar conquest mode, but Loading an existing conquest game doesn't work for me, I get stuck at the "loading current conquest..." screen.

The game is not completely frozen, I can still cancel the loading with the back key, but I cannot load a game even if I let it load for several minutes.

Any idea ? Am I the only one with this bug ?
So I think I finally figured out what was causing this issue and just released 1.5.51.003 with the fix. Apparently there was a bug on Android (not reproducible on PC) where the XML file with all the data wouldn't save if you chose a name for your conquest that contained a space character. I've worked around this by replacing spaces with underscores in the conquest's directory's name (they'll still show up as spaces in game).

Please let me know if you encounter this issue again after updating.

Thanks.
-Dan

EDIT: Just released .004 with a quick fix for renaming conquests, which I forgot to update to also replace spaces with underscores.

can someone / drdev post a Planar Conquest 101? I see tidbits of information but still have no idea what's this supposed to be. A new game mode separate from Quest mode?

Yes, it's a sort of mini quest mode, where you build your deck following most guidelines of the Commander system (no duplicate outside of basic lands, all card colors must match the commander colors ...). You also chose a planeswalker to represent yourself, and then you have a pseudo map representing a plane where you fight battles with your current commander deck.

depending on the square, you can have one of the following :
- normal battle, the commander won't be used (note that the planeswalker can be put in the deck and used in this mode and the next one)
- commander mode, your commander is in the command area and can be summoned as per the normal commander rules
- planeswalker : like commander, but your planeswalker is used as your commander

More informations :

the first time that you win against a specific opponent (each square has its own), you unlock a planeswalker emblem (with a small icon on the square to show it as already unlocked).

Those emblem can be used to unlock access to other planes that the one your started in.

Furthermore, after each win (even against an opponnent already you have already defeated before), there is a small random loterry where you can win one of the following :
- gain 5 planeswalker shard (green area)
- 1000 or 2000 aether shards
- 1 or 2 boosters of the current plane
- Chaos ! (red part)

When you gain a booster, as you cannot use duplicates in this mode, each card that you already own is replaced with Aether shards (rarer cards are worth more shard), so late in a plane conquest when you already own many cards of this plane, boosters can give you a large amount of shards

If you roll chaos, you get to fight against a random opponent, and if you win you will gain 3 boosters.
Note that those opponents don't fight by the same rules, they can use duplicate cards, and some of their decks are nasty, plus they are not limited to cards from the current plane.
However the card pools from winning against a chaos opponent is not dependend on the current plane eitheir but on the chaos opponent that you fight, so it's a way to get cards from sets that might not even be available otherwise in the current plans.

In the planar conquest menu (top right) you can access the aether where you can use aether shard to buy cards from the current plane. This is semi-random, but you will always get a card that you don't already own.

To edit a deck, go to the commander section (later when you unlock other legendary creatures you can build other decks using them as your commander if you want to change)

The menu is also where you can unlock access to other planes or move there ("planeswalk" section)

Planar conquest requests:

on the chaos wheel, change the planes walker symbol to match the currently highlighted section to make it more obvious when landing on the white which side you ate on.

Make it easier to get back to the main menu. Right now if I do a bunch of jumping around I have to press the back button like 10 times just to jump out.

Are you referring to the symbol that points to the section of the wheel you land on? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by making it match the currently highlighted section, as there is no "highlighted" section. Besides, if you land on the line, it should be pretty obvious from what happens next which side of the line you actually landed on.

As for your second request, should I make it so the Back button from any non-Multiverse screen goes back to the Multiverse screen, and then from there the Back button always goes to the Load Conquest screen?

I'd actually like a screen that shows some statistical information about your conquest all in one place. Namely, how many planeswalker emblems you have, your overall record, your total shards, your conquest progress, that sort of thing.

This project is amazing, thank you for all the work you're putting into it!

I've run into an issue when multiple instances of the same trigger (from different copies of a card) go onto the stack at the same time. For example: two copies of Emeria, the Sky Ruin are on the battlefield, with enough plains out for the trigger. At the beginning of upkeep the triggers go on the stack and I'm prompted to make selections, which seems to work fine, but then nothing resolves.

I've included a screenshot that shows the triggers still on the stack but the stack counter at the bottom shows "Empty."

Thanks for your help!

There's a pretty bad bug that came out with the recent update, it been skipping my main phase 1 out. When my opponent has ended his turn and it goes to my turn it just goes to combat phase. Please fix! Also the theme packs are kinda unstable. I like the new Phyrexia one and it crashes a lot. Would be nice to get that fixed in the future. One more thing thank you for the wonderful app :) :) :D :) :)

I'm having a problem opening Forge on my OnePlus X running Cyanogenmod 13 (Android 6.0.1).

Whenever I attempt to open Forge it opens to a black screen. Deleting downloaded data, reinstalling the app and turning off autorotate (so it forces portrait mode) doesn't work.

The screen is 5" and has a resolution of 1080p if that helps. Any suggestions I can try or help fix this problem?

Sounds more like you clicked the phase indicator for your M1. If you tap the phase indicator it'll flip from red to green and then it'll stop.
