Reboot, and make sure Windows is installed to your C drive.

Hi everyone. I am quite new here, but i would like to ask - there is some kind of patch or update in this post - viewtopic.php?f=55&t=898&start=165 for original game(which i assume is the old one made by micropose - that you are referring to in "BEFORE" part of the installation guide).

But there are some cards mention, specially on page 12 - like the Desolation Angel being in, while they are not in this version. I have`t try the other one, but would the updates for it, work with this one (2010) ? I think - they are referring to patch Manalink201.rar ?

I downloaded everything, but I can't seem to get it to run. It's all installed, but when I try to play Shandalar it says I do not have enough free swap space, and then immediately crashes. Is there anything I can do about this?

Those cards mentioned are in the latest update of Manalink. Beware that if you update them you won't be able to play Shandalar or Multiplayer.

If so, what version of ML are you trying to launch and what is your OS?

i cant get the multiplayer function to work even though me and my mate followed the instructions thoroughly.
it says "E009" when we type each others ip's in the join, doesnt matter if i or he hosts. it's the same error i get if i type no ip at all, we also tried disabling the hosts firewall.

This version should contain the deck pack from the 1st abandonware that hosted it : monster deck and few others submitted by players at that time (like the infamous Channel Fireball, Blue Death or Explosion decks)

What version of Manalink are you both using?

Sorry, I'm gonna have to say this - I think questions relating to other available versions of the game are causing a lot of confusion for people causally visiting this thread for updates and information on the '2009/10 Custom Installer ISO' game.

Just to clarify - This thread is devoted to the '2009/10 Custom Installer ISO' version of the game. Please consider whether the question you are posting is directed towards this version of the game.

For those who are getting somewhat confused of what files go with what - read on.

All the updated files specific to the '2009/10 Custom Installer ISO' version of the game are posted at the beginning of this thread.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2349

This is currently the only thread devoted to, and posting, update files specific to this version of the game.
None of the files found, posted, or mentioned, elsewhere in the CCGHQ forum or wiki are compatible with this version, and installing them will only guarantee corrupting the game.
There is no mix and match between this game, the original, or the current development version. You will need to completely uninstall this version before installing another, and vise versa.

The ISO game is possibly the last version developed which retained much of the feel and look of Microprose's original game. Although, it does have a major bonus of including many cards which were never available at the time of the original games release.
It is provided as fairly simple to install introduction to the game for the newbie or casual user, and something of a nostalgic blast from the past for the original game owner.

Don't expect miracles though - it still has bugs which in many cases we are now unable to resolve. Most notably in the Shandalar section of the game, which never received the same attention as the Duelling section, and has subsequently been removed from recent development of the game.

Melkor, Desolation Angel is included in the '2010 Custom Installer ISO' version of the game. Unfortunately, when the ISO was originally constructed, much of the artwork included was incorrect. The Card Art update at the beginning of the thread has corrected many of the card specific problems.

No. Not if you want to continue using multiplayer and Shandalar.

Sonic, thanks for the notes, I finally got around to adding them to the first post. See your PM.

I need hints for first time players who, like me, not only suck, but have never finished Shandalar. These hints will go in a new readme that I'm compiling.

I stole these from Tapani. They could use details, they could be more step-by-step, and there must be many more. What would you tell a new player to do so that they would have a chance with the game? Reading the manual doesn't help much.

------------------------------------------------------------
Shandalar hints:
------------------------------------------------------------

1. After starting a new game, visit as many villages you
can, looking for cards in one or two colors only.
The cards available depends on the terrain on the map.

2. Avoid fights until you have a 1-2 color deck.

3. Take lairs (graveyards, shipwrecks...)!

4. Cards are more pricey (both selling and buying) in non-villages.
Try to sell cards in non-villages.

5. Early on only take on mana-link quests. Do NOT take on a
defeat X mission.

6. Don't forget to buy food!

7. Occasional high level creature have a power card (or two).

8. Have utmost respect for the genies; fear the dragons.

Hi Sonic, I posted a bug I encountered in the FAQ section, and after reading your post I think it's become clearer to me now... The Manalink201 update should probably NOT be applied to the 2010 Custom Installer ISO version of the game. Am I correct?

An additional question though - are the cards Sneak Attack, Mind Over Matter, Serra Avatar, Cursed Scroll included in the patches for the 2010 Custom Installer ISO version?

Hi mzepol

You'd be correct - Manalink201 is already patched into the CD-ROM ISO. Installing it separately shouldn't be necessary.
When Hip63 (he, of who we are not worthy!) constructed the CD-ROM ISO installer, he managed to include all the most recent patches available for the Manalink.

You will probably need to install the 'MTG 2010 Multiplayer.zip' mentioned in the first post to get the Multi-player to work though.
http://www.mediafire.com/?jnmlywtrj2z

There is a list of all the available cards in the CD-ROM ISO version of the game included in the Card Art update.
None of those you mention are in there unfortunately.

Sorry. :(
