Re: Forge 08/20/2010 (unofficial BETA) version

Hi,
I downloaded the newest beta and the r1810 update and have played a few single games and that worked great. I then decided to try out the quest mode so I went in and started by creating a deck. I saved it as "red green" and then went into the store to see what cards were available to buy. Now whenever I go back into the deck editor and try to open the deck I created I get the following error message. Any idea how I can fix this or what I've done wrong?

You need to build your deck from the cards you've drafted before playing with them. Go into the deck editor and select "Open Deck - Draft" from the "Deck Action" menu. Then you can build it. Then select it in the dropdown box in the main window, select opponent number and "Start Game".
So now you're
Screaming for the blood of the cookie monster
Evil puppet demon of obesity
Time to change the tune of his fearful ballad
C is for "Lettuce," that's good enough for me

itor
1) I click start the game and it's open Deck Editor, I have choose my card and make my deck...when I choose my deck and start game ... no cards
2) I go directly in the deck editor and try New Deck Draft but it's unavalaible. Only New sealed and construct

You need to use "Open deck - Draft" in the deck editor after you've picked from the boosters.

Hmm, I'm not too sure, there might be some bugs introduced regarding the rarity files for quest mode.goonjamin wrote:Hi,
I downloaded the newest beta and the r1810 update and have played a few single games and that worked great. I then decided to try out the quest mode so I went in and started by creating a deck. I saved it as "red green" and then went into the store to see what cards were available to buy. Now whenever I go back into the deck editor and try to open the deck I created I get the following error message. Any idea how I can fix this or what I've done wrong?
...
Thanks again for the great program.
My suggestion is to delete the deck, and try creating one again... Wirewood Elf is the culprit here, it looks like somehow it can't be found in the quest rarities.

Hi, I have problem with the gui.
I only see the mana pool boxes and no combat box(where the enchantments and creatures lie).
I'll add a pic.
PS: If the new gui really should look like that, then how can I switch it to the old(original version gui).

It's supposed to look like that (there's only one play area with the new GUI - but it will resize dynamically when new cards enter play).
To use the old GUI, just uncheck the box that says "Use New GUI" in the main menu (right after you start forge).

Oh, it's at the bottom of your screenshot, "New GUI" it's called, in the "settings" section along with "Stack AI Land" and "Milling = Loss condition".

I have 4 problems with the new GUI.
#1- If I play a creature like Thelonite Hermit and decide to play it face down for 3 mana, I still get the card face up in play. I can still pay the morph cost to flip it over but it is not possible to tell whether or not the card is morphed. This is not good.
#2A- Tokens. Why in heaven's name are tokens not stacked anymore???
I mean, look at the attached screenshot. Every token is placed alone and then you must scroll down, way down, to be able to reach your mana.
#2B-Why are tokens no longer placed at the end of the creature line up as they were in the old GUI? Now usefull "main" cards are somewhere in the heap of tokens, happy hunting! NOT!
#3- Lands do stack and you can select the stack size. That is nice but it is virtually impossible to tell how many cards/lands there are in a stack due to the black-on-black outlines.
This has caused me a few "not enough mana" moments. Not good.
#4- the way the cards pop around the play area. Play your first card (most likely a land), you get a GIANT card. Play a creature and it swings to the left, still GIANT sized. Play a few more and things go smaller and smaller as seen on the screenshot mentioned at #2. This means that you often end up hunting all over the screen for that one card you want to activate.
I would really prefer a fixed size and a separate mana zone because this GUI is very unpleasant to use right now.
I know, I can still use the old GUI. But a GUI should be easy to use, no matter what is in play, or how many objects are in play. And 1 game with the saproling deck has shown this new GUI's problems.
The old GUI works better for me, even with the sideway scrolling. At least the cards are always at a fixed size there.
However, I do complement you guys for trying to improve the GUI and I understand that this, like the rest of the game, is still a "work in progress". Let's just say it needs a lot more work before it can replace the old GUI.

These are all valid points, especially if you decide to play thousands of tokens
Another gripe I have with the new GUI is auras that enchant opponent's permanents, such as Pacifism, will just show up in the player's play area.
The facedown issue was fixed though on the SVN, so morph creatures will actually be facedown in the next version. Like you said, it's a work in progress... In many ways I already prefer the new GUI over the old, except if there's a lot of tokens dumped in play
The one point I disagree with is the fixed card size, I like the dynamic resizing of the cards... perhaps there could be a max card size limit though, so there's no "one giant card" showing up on screen.

Question (and advance apology if the answer is here and I didn't see it):
How do I upgrade and keep my current Quest data (wins/losses/decks/cards)?
