all the card pictures?
by haganjj42 » 26 Feb 2011, 19:40
hi, i just came across this program...
...
how do i get all the card images?
..
iam using the totally newest version of forge...(02/19)
is there a version that all card images are easily available?
..
ive used the downloader -in program- , but i still have some missing pictures..
... although it said it downloaded like, 13000 pictures... and there is ~6000+ cards in use??
...
you guys should make a standard easy way to download the cards pictures.
...
OR is there some possibility of getting a feature to "only include pictured cards"
...the great artwork is one of the main reasons i play Magic

if you already have the MWS images, I think it should work fine

The LQ set pics downloader is the easiest way. For 7000 cards, many with multiple printings, it should be more like 14k pics.
If you go to the pictures forum, you can get the bulk of the HQ full-size pictures, but there are a few issues with them. First, Forge doesn't like the full-resolution pictures too much, the game will slow down significantly; so I used a batch process to resize them to 300 pixels tall. Second, I've found many inconsistencies in capitalization in the HQ image archives; so as I discover them, I make the filename changes, then put them up on cardforge.org.

If you would bring these to our attention they could be fixed once and for all. As it stands we aren't aware of any problems.Rob Cashwalker wrote:Second, I've found many inconsistencies in capitalization in the HQ image archives; so as I discover them, I make the filename changes, then put them up on cardforge.org.

hmm.. I'll see what I can do.
I only realized these problems when I switched to Linux, where the capitalization makes a difference. Mostly in 9th edition, wherever "of" is in the filename... instead of "Of".

Hmm. Well, for what the HQ Team does, the card name should match the spelling on the card itself, and then the database should reflect that. If gatherer spells a card differently than the card does, we're in slight trouble.

There were some OLD cards, like Will-o'-the-Wisp or some such, where the printed name was different than the current Gatherer. Only in the 9th archive, have I found numerous instances... it just seemed like the filenames ignored printed capitalizations, and were simply mixed-case word-for-word.
There has been an occasional missing card, which magiccards.info has an image for, even though I thought they used our archives as source.
When I get to my laptop tonight, I'll try to do a search to identify all the files I modified.
The downloader for the set images logs cards it can't find. So I run it every once in a while to find errors in the SetInfo data in our card text, identify older cards with multiple printings and identify mis-named cards from the picture archive.
Does MWS construct a filename for the picture or does it already know the expected filename from the database? Also, MWS is Windows, and windows has no problem with the filenames...

I appreciate any info you can find. Maybe this isn't something we can fix, but we should be aware of it.
AFAIK, MWS expects the picture name to match the database name, but case is ignored.

I don't have any records here.... The file modified date still shows when I originally extracted the archive, not when I changed the filename. But I'm pretty sure it was 9ED. We don't have Circle of Protection implemented, so I didn't change it, and the filename has "Of", where all the other cards in 9th we have are ones I'm pretty sure I recall changing to "of", but I don't have an easy way to figure out all of them, short of pulling the archives again, and then running some sort of directory comparison tool...

I'm wondering how to get token pictures, it kind of breaks the flow if you have all these pretty cards, but ugly tokens.

There is an archive on this site with all of the high quality tokens. You will have to rename these files for forge to recognize them.
If you are using low quality images for cards rather than high quality you will need a graphics program to scale these HQ images down to 200 x 285 pixels.
In the past several people have poasted a link to an archive of tokens for forge. These archives contain many but not all of the token pics that are now used by forge.
This web site has a search field that you can use to perform a search for tokens. This will help you to track down the archives mentioned above. I will post a list of token file names used by forge:

A very obvious question. Probably irrelevant. Unable to download any of the card sets for the new beta (Forge 03/18/2011 (unofficial BETA)).
The download meter crawls to maximum, taking a half a day or so, but when completed, no card pictures show up in the folder itself, (so far I've tried HQ and LQ-set; not yet LQ). This is very frustrating.
I assumed it would be easier than using the MWS sets from reading this page, but it proved not to be the case.
Is there any suggestion for how to make it work? Thank you, and MTG Forge is great; I just wish I could use the new version! (Am still using old version with ~2000 cards).
