Can anyone draft?
by bane221 » 10 Apr 2011, 19:43
I know I must have done something wrong. I'm still getting a crash on loading a draft deck in the editor and, with this most recent build, the saved draft deck isn't even appearing in the list of draft decks available for edit. I know I've messed something up, thoughts? Anyone having similar problems even with the new build?

I've seen a number of posts stating that the editor currently is not working with the draft files (you can draft, you just can't edit the files, making it difficult to play with the cards you drafted). One of the places I saw this was in your earlier post... Watch the new release notes to see if the problem has been resolved.
A woman came up to me and said / "I'd like to poison your mind / With wrong ideas that appeal to you / Though I am not unkind."

The devs are aware of the problem. The draft portion of forge must be a few years old by now. The dev work over the last few years have created some incompatibilities.
One of the devs has been working on this section of code, he just has not been able to finish off the work at this time. I think that we might be able to draft by sets and/or blocks at some point. People might be able to also use the deck editor to create "cube" sets for drafts.
We just need to be patient and to give the dev a chance to finish his work.

I've just finished a big distraction from working on draft - my theater group just closed "Lend Me a Tenor".
I have the basics of drafting by set/block, custom draft and all-Forge draft operational. Right now I'm fixing the AI for picking cards, and building the AI deck.
I think at least once I did open the draft in the deck editor, but I'll work on making sure that all works soon.

Thanks for the update, I was having the same problem OP outlined. In the meantime, does anyone know of an older version of Forge in which drafting fully works?

You could page through the forge topics and look for version 10-19-2010. This version might be OK for drafting. If it has the same sort of drafting problems then you might have to go back farther.

I've been using the Jan 14 version for draft. After that, it gets hairy.

I'm nearly there. I have the AI picking cards in an intelligent manner, and I'm working on the AI deck building.
