Forge 04/22/2011 (unofficial BETA) version

7746 cards in total.

This version is based upon the revision # 8153 which is found on our SVN.

This beta includes some new cards and a number of bug fixes. The work pace has slowed somewhat. Work continues on the Ability Factory and cards sets. Additional cards were added to the list of cards that will not appear in a randomly generated deck.

Fnoed spent some time in the recent past improving the quest mode UI, the user interface. With the several thousand new cards that were added some people developed an interest in upgrading the previous quest mode AI decks and we would also like to add son=me new decks.

We attempted to add in untested and unadjusted decks and decided to try a different and more organized approach. We have several new and several changed decks in this version. There will probably become an ongoing project and we can expect to see additional quest opponent decks over the next several beta releases.

We also have a handful of bug fixes and new cards for this release. There is a new column in the deck editor labeled AI. The data contained in this column is primarily for those people who are building and editing quest opponent decks.

I found a utility to remove the hidden Mac-related files. I removed the ".SVN" and the /res/lib/ folders from this archive as they are not needed. We have changed the archiving format to ".tar.bz2" since this may help to store the file permissions for the Mac OS X launcher. There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to decompress these archives.


The Mac OS application version:

We have packaged the Forge 04/01/2011 BETA version as a Mac OS application. You can double click the Forge.app icon to launch the forge application on your Apple computer running Mac OS. This application will automatically increase the java heap space memory for you as it launches. This version does not require the forge.command file and it does not need to start the Terminal application as part of the start up process. This version should only require java 1.5.

You can move a copy of your pictures and decks over to the Forge.app application. Right click or control click on the Forge.app icon. Select Show Package Contents form the contextual menu. A Finder window will open and will display a folder named Contents. Navigate to the folder:

/Contents/Resources/Java/res/

Your decks can be placed in the decks folder, your pics can be placed in the pics folder, etc.

I am trying to upload the main forge archive to MediaFire and am having no luck. Both times MediaFire has reported a failure and the archive fails to show up under "My File Listing".

And yet the opp icon archive uploaded OK. I do not know what is happening with MediaFire today. Sigh. Will try one more time.

Thank you Sol, I may try that next.

The new icon archive was accepted by MediaFire even though it gave me a failure message at the end. The new icon archive is a .7z rather than a .tar.bz2 archive.

I was able to upload the Mac Forge archive with the same results and it is also a .7z archive. Not sure if I am on to something or not.

That link is not yet ready. Sorry about that. I only have modem dial up and it is taking me a lon, long time to get all the links up. MedaiFire is also giving me some problems.

I have two of the three links up. I am trying to upload a WinUnix version as a .7z archive since MedaiFire seems to be accepting that type of archive at this time.

I was able to upload a working copy of the main archive to MediaFire. This version should be compatible with Windows and Unix.

This version does not contain the forge.command file that is needed to launch the jar without a heap error on an Apple Mac computer.

Macs should use the Mac version, or if you still have a copy of the forge.command file you can use that to launch the Windows and Unix version.


Oh, and Sol, I downloaded the installer and will try this out in a more relaxed time. I think that I should be looking for a replacement to MediaFire as a long term solution.

Note that the Recover keyword does no longer work (I don't know since when).

Wow, I'm not sure what happened, but ever since I installed the newest update, all I get are error messages. Two when it starts up, and more when I try to start a game. It won't allow me to do anything. I can reprint the errors here if that will help. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having this issue.

Try extracting the archive into a new directory and see if it will run.

Note that if you do not use the included launcher and instead launch the run-forge.jar file without increasing the java heap space you will get an error message.

I figured out the issue. It was due some card files having their name changed and not overwriting the original. It was giving fits because there were multiple instances of some cards. Once I deleted the oldest versions of those cards, everything worked fine.
