I played a couple of games using this new foil option. Nice. I did not notice any slow downs, thankfully, as the foiled cards were the land cards for both players and there were a lot of lands in play at game's end.

If slow downs do become a problem then it might be best for me to create lower resolution overlays. Seeing as its smooth gradients and is stretched to fit the card anyway, I don't know that it would cause any noticeable degradation of the graphics.Chris H. wrote:`Rob Cashwalker wrote:I just added a random foil assignment option for constructed mode. 1:6 cards will be assigned a random foil pattern.

@Rob: Are you planning on offering different foiling:normal ratios besides 1:6? Maybe a 1:10 or 1:15 for those that still want an occasional special card but don't want the battlefield overwhelmed with them. At 1:15 its unlikely to have more than 4 or 5 on the field at a time which just adds that subtle flavour.

I would likely reduce the foiling to about 1:10. Foils appear in modern packs at 1:6, but it is a rather high ratio for regular constructed mode. If foiling was a performance issue, it should appear at this ratio, which at least one person claims to be the case.... I don't think the resolution of the foil would make that much difference. It is just the extra step of rendering the foil layer along with all the mana symbols. If the same user disabled all the card overlay effects, they should also see an additional improvement in speed.

If there is a foil card in every sixth pack, doesn't that mean that one in 90 (6 times 15) cards is foil?Rob Cashwalker wrote:I would likely reduce the foiling to about 1:10. Is there a clear foil01.png that anyone has. I really hate the foil filter and want to replace it with a blank filter so I can not forget to turn it off.
I tried deleting but the program will not open.

if you like one of the others, then just copy it over the one(s) you don't like.

forge remembers the foil setting. you only need to redo it if you overwrite forge.preferences.Corwin72 wrote:Is there a clear foil01.png that anyone has. I really hate the foil filter and want to replace it with a blank filter so I can not forget to turn it off.
have you considered creating a 1px x 1px black png with Paint or such?

Here's a blank to overwrite the others. Rename and duplicate.
Edit: Typical! The one time you attach a blank image it adds it at full scale. Replacing with something smaller. Still the same aspect ratio in case it makes a difference.
Edit 2: Seems you can't click on a blank png file. So just right click and save target...

Would it be possible to have the foils link to card ID instead of to the name? That way you don't have all copies of a land being foiled if it happens to be the 1:25 (or whatever the current ratio is). I realise though, that it would make it difficult to mark a particular card as being foiled in quest mode because I don't think the meta data can handle distinguishing 1 particular card from a group with the same name. Not sure what the solution would be... I'm going to try some options then post back here.
Edit: I tried building different decks but no luck.
It seems to be purely based on card name. Things I tried were:
• Moving each instance of a card onto a new line in the deck file
• using different set codes for each instance (thought that if that worked there could be some sort of work-around)
Not sure what else to try, but thought I'd at least try to come up with a solution

I think I fixed that. There was a Card object which wasn't cleared between each iteration of the loop to assemble the decks.

Thank you. Before I had the blank .png foil lands were the reason that I hated foils. I thought that it caused all the lands to look alike.

I like the foil effect, but I feel that it should not be wide spread. A rare foil card should be a wondrous achievement.
Thank you for the fix, Rob.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. More rare (within reason) would make them a bit more special. As mentioned above, 1:90 might be right.
