My scanner isn't the best quality, are you going to be able to clean those up to meet your high standards?

I heard they were manufactured this way on purpose, to foil counterfeiters of paper money. Is that true?PresetM wrote:A reason for this error is the scanner movement in y-direction. Most older scanner works not exactly in this direction and produces a little inaccuracy.

presetm - i think i was talking about the borderless card. Anyway, regardless of dimension errors, I think the appropriate maximum size is 300dpi - this is the usual resolution for printing stuff.
scottchief - your problem is the vertical banding in the dark areas, the rest is good. It's actually a problem I can only partially solve, but it's definitely better than nothing (or a HP all in one). However, for Fatestitcher, which has a lot of shadows I can't do much. This is probably because your scanner sensor needs cleaning, but I'd advise against doing it at home. I did it for mine, but it's a PITA and of course it voids any warranty. Maybe someone will come with better scans - the Scientist has yet to receive somemore cards - and then we'll see. Newest sets are never definitive, anyway.
huggy, no, a genuine counterfeiter could repair that error immediately. It's a mechanical problem : scanning is basically walking a strip made of sensors vertically across the scanning glass. The horizontal part is always the same, being hardware, the vertical is controlled by a motor who moves the CCD. That motor, like any mechanical device, is not that perfect, especially in low cost scanners. Adding to the fact that everything is very highly magnified, any speed variation translates in different vertical dimensions.

This is the first time I scan cards, I hope the result is good. I tried to follow the instructions given by extreme, but if I made any mistakes, please point them out and I'd be happy to do it again.
This is Mayael the Anima. I have a few other cards in the wishlist, so I can do more once I know how to scan properly.

Today I found out the scanner setting will change before and after the preview, and I'm not quite sure what setting it was for my last scan. So I rescanned Mayael the Anima with two new cards, I'm sure this time the three are using the same settings.extreme wrote:please do the others you have with exactly the same settings.
Fatestitcher:

Sedraxis Specter:

Mayael the Anima (take two):

These are all the cards I have on the wishlist.
Comparing with my untrained eyes, it seems the scan this time has less color saturation, but otherwise similar. If necessary, I'd be happy to go back to figure out what setting I used last time and rescan.
It's a Canon CanoScan 8400F. It's the scanner in my school's computer lab.extreme wrote:What scanner do you have ? I like the scan.

these are very good ! Thank you.
So, it was a canon, I suspected that.
Wishlist :
Gather Specimens
Caldera Hellion
Skullmulcher
Hellkite Overlord
Minion Reflector
only 5 to go, c'mon guys
strangely enough, there's just one mythic rare missing. I thought those would be last to go.

I will try to scan the last 5 cards at work today, if no one else has done it yet. I've never scanned for this project before, but I very much appreciate what you guys are doing. I will read and follow your scanning directions (and don't worry, it's not a cheap all-in-one like I have at home
).
