The SVN version now has the option to set the max card size from six different sizes available. I used a constant from the old gui and the old buttom "Specify Card Size" (renamed to "Specify Max Card Size"). The default (as it was before) is Large.

It is difficult for a group of volunteers to maintain multiple battlefield classes. We currently have a similar problem with several different deck editor classes.
The New Game menu command for setting the card size was only used for the old style UI. It looks like Sloth has found a way to get some use out of it, good job.
Limiting the max card size should be a good compromise.

Awesome! That is a good compromise and definitely something I could live with!

While this might be true for you, we've found lots of our players love to overpopulate the field with thousands of tokens. Scrolling for these players would be more atrocious than your "popin" argument. I think the compromise with a max card setting should work until we can totally refit the Battlefield UI.zaroblan wrote:In a 1v1 game of Magic with more finely tuned decks going beyond 7 to 10 turns should be a rarity (except for more control oriented) and there should therefor be enough space to not have to resize. I should as the user have some control over how I want the battlefield presented to me ... and not have it forced on me.

I play tested Sloth's fix, wow.
I set the max card size to medium figuring that with a large 24 inch monitor this would limit the card size by a noticeable amount.
Turns out this size is perfect for me. Monitors come in all sizes so people will need to experiment and find the perfect size for themselves.

I have to admit to being one of those. Even RL games with friends we used to build decks that had about 300 cards and play them until they were almost depleted. It was just so much fun, especially seeing as we couldn't afford to buy individual cards for tournament-level decks. Now I can relive those days but get even BIGGER final kills.friarsol wrote:We've found lots of our players love to overpopulate the field with thousands of tokens...

Bugz is not responding so I can't post there atm. When assigning damage to multiple blockers, the blocker card images appear to be very large images squeezed vertically to the same size window they used to be. Very strange looking.

I have just downloaded the latest version (1.18) of MagArena and am absolutely astounded by how much work they have done on their battlefield UI. Their original UI suffered from many of the same issues I experienced with the latest version of Forge.
Their new version, however, is absolutely brilliant. They have implemented similarly some of the suggestions I made on this very forum a few days ago. It looks and works beautifully.
I sincerely hope that Forge can make similar advancements in their UI as I feel that Forge has a lot more to offer game wise than MagArena. I miss being able to play the quest and the drafts, but I still cannot bring myself to play Forge with the battlefield UI still as it is.

Hey Max mtg,
I am a humungous Forge fan and just wish they can make their battlefield UI as usable as MagArena so I can start playing quests again

Sorry Mtg max,
No offence was intended. All criticism is offered in a constructive fashion. Forge was always my Magic game of choice. The changes to the battlefield UI made the game unusable from a UI design and usability point of view. I am a software engineer by profession, but after hours I have a wife and two children one of whom is mentally disabled so free time is few and far between, otherwise you can be damn sure I would be helping with the UI development.
In software, as in customer facing work, the customer is always right, and in this case the customer is me
If you choose to take my comments as criticism then that is your right. From side my comments were meant as nothing but user feedback from someone who is a UI design specialist ... and an ardent Magic fan. I just want Forge to be the best it can be and was under the distinct impression that feedback was welcome. Any and all feedback is actually meant as help.
So please, if I have offended any of the development team, all of whom have my admiration, I apologise profusely.
Thanks,
Robert "The Turquoise Mage" Lancaster

I just need to say this:
The customer is not always right. The saying means that you should not make the customer feel bad or get angry, and when they complain there might actually be a problem.
On topic again: I won't say that the UI is unusable but it could be better, and maybe MagArena have made some good choices in that area. But I feel that no game/application handling this kind of game have made a real good UI yet, but forge and MagArena are moving in the right direction.
Keep up the good work!

User experience, make or break. MtG drafting is fun.
