You'll find both of those in the first post of the Promo and Box Set thread.PoVisko wrote:Y U NO RELEASE DUEL DECKS??I mean Ajani/Bolas and Knight/Dragons? Lightning helix picture would look so good in my MWS legacy deck...

All of these images seem to use this symbol for the apostrophe: '
While Cockatrice uses this symbol: ’
I'm assuming MWS uses the first one? Anyone know an easy way to rename the cards for an entire pics directory? Maybe a script of some sort?

As suspected, with Megaupload shut down and still in limbo with the courts, it looks like some other sites may be additional targets.

Check out the links for the full scoop.
I would recommend a full dump of the MF folders just in case.
Is it only the MTG pics that are on MF or should we be backing up additional MF folders?

I've been reading about Pisca Web Albums as an image hosting solution. It may not be as convenient as MediaFire, but it may work for our needs. Some notable benefits/limitations:
+ Its owned by Google, so its likely to be around for a very long time
+ Images under 2048 x 2048 are stored free and unlimited (Assuming the Pisca account is linked to a Google account)
+ Images may be uploaded and synchronized using Pisca Software
- Images cannot be archived for up- or down-load
- Bulk downloads require Pisca Software. (Although it looks like Windows, Mac, and Linux can run it)
- Although there is support for Multiple contributors, its clunky. One person should organize the images. They need to manually create an 'album' for each set.
Flickr and Photobucket have bandwidth limitations. Here's a couple dummy albums I made on Pisca: https://picasaweb.google.com/111266363428153086853

Unfortunately, Picasa won't work because it falls under Google's T&Cs which isn't the best considering the nature of the content we would be uploading.
The only alternatives are a web hosting solution (but then who would pay for that kind of bandwidth) or a true torrent(s). As someone who has tried to manage things within a torrent structure, I will definitely rule against them as they require a lot of effort to maintain with the number of releases we have. Remember that all the archives on MF are generic and for use within many different applications. The app developer usually tries to stick to one naming convention for set codes, etc. but it never really works that way. MWS is different than Wagic is different than Magic Album is different than Cockatrice.
Suggestions are welcome, but the future is looking grim for the MF folders at least.

Mostly pictures in the MF folder. I also recommend anyone interested to download and store the whole thing. My previous warning is still valid and there's no reason for me to explain any more. You can read between the lines.
Web hosting will never work, no one can afford it.
The renaming issue has mostly been solved. There is at least one app on this forum that can handle it.
A torrent is the only solution, and is entirely workable. There's only one problem: out of the tens of thousands (estimated) of people who use these pics, not one is able to help me. When push comes to shove it will probably get done, but it would be a lot better for it to be done sooner rather than later.

I have all the pics (unzipped, and minor spelling errors fixed) on my server ark42.com/mtg
Unless I see a huge rise in traffic, I have no problem with people downloading from there in the event that MF goes away.

Huggybaby wrote:PS A heads up to everyone: I've quit uploading to Rapidshare, it was too much of a PIA to use any more. A lot of those files have been lost due to inactivity, so be it.
Regarding MediaFire: I pioneered the use of that service, I've been using it since it was in beta. They initially had no file size restrictions! With the recent trouble MF is looking too good to be true. Do not be surprised, I've warned you more than once.
Total Storage Used
11 GB
From 519 total files
Total Downloads Served
1,870,028
Since January 26, 2007
Est. Bandwidth Served
50.65 TB
From Currently Hosted Files
Almost 2 million downloads!
And that doesn't include all our Rapidshare stuff which was a lot, and the torrent which accounts for easily as much bandwidth as MF.
There are some very popular projects here, but HQ Pics are king. They are the standard.
You could be looking at 1TB/month!Ark wrote:I have all the pics (unzipped, and minor spelling errors fixed) on my server ark42.com/mtg

I get 6000GB/month, and only use 500-800GB/month of that, mostly for my other website that makes money and pays for the server. An extra TB/month isn't going to affect me or my server at this time.

Your website would be crushed in less than six months were we to tie it to something automatic like the now unused (but viable) MWSA or MWSPA. If you'd like to try it, we can.

bayimg is an intriguing service. A platform for "free uncensored image hosting", it is run by the PirateBay team. They are the kings of illegal torrenting, so although their bayimg privacy policy states that copyrighted content may not be uploaded, I doubt it would be enforced. From thier site: "We will not remove any pictures that are just immoral or in any way legal to host under Swedish law." (The site is hosted in Sweden).
Here's the breakdown:
+ Blackhat Swedish Host
+ No account required to upload
+ Zip and Rar files may be uploaded and will be extracted by the server. They would be grouped into an "album"
? I can't get the archive uploads to work, but bulk uploading using File & Image Uploader may be better anyway. The app automatically logs URLs for the images!
- Images are deleted after 30 days of inactivity, but if we forward all of our current traffic there, they should never expire?
- Hotlinking is blocked by the site
+ loading an image url directly (no HTTP referrer) works prefectly in my web browser
- We'd need a custom app to download them in bulk. This should work since applications don't send a referrer when accessing the internet (do they?)
