Would love to promise a specific timeline for when the torrent will be released but suffice it to say that it is imminent. Sometime before Alara Reborn and Duke Nukem Forever gets released is a definite though.
In reality, we aren't too far off reaching our target in terms of comparisons and updates and we should have it out within the next two weeks. We may decide to hold off so that Conflux will be included in it.

That's actually a good idea.

Will this new torrent also include the promotional magic cards which can be found in the thread Promotional Cards Pictures + MWS Masterbase or is this still something everyone should collect by themselves? It would be great if it could be included. And even greater if those promotional cards are also included in the masterbase.

The torrent will include the contents of the promotional cards thread but there are a host of other cards that are being scanned that will be added, either now with this release, or in a later update. Do understand that the promos section is in constant flux and probably the one most updated these days so trying to get it 100% for this release would delay the torrent release.

As far as the masterbase goes, the general consensus has been to not include all the promotional cards for use in MWS but rather let each individual person add the records as needed. See the promo thread for details on how to do this.

Nice! I do understand that the promo section is in constant flux and as such the most frequently updated one and that's why I think a .torrent might not be the best sharing option out there, or is it?

Right now I do love mediafire and the shared folder collection: CCGHQ MTG English Pics

I think the likes of MediaFire are also an easy way to spread files and more importantly to remove old zips and replace them with new zips (when series have been scanned again for example or to replace mistakes). This is obviously too hard to do with .torrents

But still I'm in favour of torrents and will download the new one to replace my whole folder and will continue to seed the base torrent for other people. But regarding the updates to this master torrent, there should be something more easy to keep updated on the new additions. And also the MediaFire/Rapidshare folder should at all times be up to date for consistency matters.

Yes, I've read that tutorial a couple of weeks ago and I understand the reasoning behind this method of adding the cards yourself to the masterbase.

The MF folder is supposed to work exactly the way you described (serving as the most up to date source of pics), and after we finish the torrent we will quickly bring the folder up to date, and change the organization some to make things a bit easier to find. So much was updated last year that I couldn't keep up, but now that Nyth has analyzed things so well an update will definitely be in order. We also will have a meaningful update package/torrent once again. It was impossible to do that this year because the update package would have been as large as the regular torrent.

I will also remove the not English files from the main torrent because there are so many now. It's not popular but it will have to sink or swim on its own.

I read somewhere here on the forum that your modifying the software so, I suggest these:

Mainly:
The image can't be enlarged... it should be re-sizable...
the annoying [?] on the price list box... can it be removed?
The search box should have the option to dock...
it should be overhauled graphically... Make it more modern looking...

It's great to hear all these nice upcoming things. And even greater that there will be a reorgnization of everything, because to be honest I had a hard time getting everything in order from all the different sources/links out there.

I'm in favour of one or two official sources/mirrors at once to keep it simple and efficient. One master torrent (followed by mini torrents each month which serve as updated) and one mediafire folder which is an exact mirror of the master torrent + mini update torrents.

This should be sufficient for most people and also very easy to gather everything. Thing is I'm a returning magic player and I installed MWS from scratch just some weeks ago and then I started looking for pics; it took me quite a while to get is sorted and still I detected some major errors just recently.. all my Portal scans seemed to be the old ones, which I took from Rapidshare I think; now I've got the correct ones from the MF folder.

I downloaded the "MasterBase (15892 cards)" but on my MWS there are ONLY 15823 cards "Jace VS Chandra" is showing on "Apprentice-like Card Filter" search BUT, there are NO cards listed for Jace VS Chandra.


BTW: if you're gonna make it an Official source make it rapidshare links.... I really don't like MS... it's so slow..... but since most users here don't have accts... can you make it RS and MS instead? I could lend you accts.... just don't change the pass...

I'm assuming you're talking about the masterbase and comparing it to the images. For most of the sets you listed, the pictures are more up to date than the database due to the earlier comment regarding updating promos in the database. Also, we have been providing images of the flipped versions of the flip cards from the Kamigawa series. It isn't the split cards that you're counting. The database has no need for the flipped version.

As far as official sources go we are aiming more towards Fredd-E's comment which is:

• Master Torrent (yearly release - TBD)
• Update Torrents (every 4 months)
• MediaFire Folders (these will contain all the contents of the torrents organised by Fulls and Crops)

We phase out older links over time since a lot of the stuff that we provide is referenced to from other websites. This thread will be updated with all the official sources as well as a lot of mirrors. Once the new torrent is out [News Flash: The Fulls are ready and the crops are almost there], the MediaFire folders will mirror the torrent so that any user can download via torrent and/or MediaFire. Once that is done, these sources will be better than the other existing "unofficial" mirrors. We will continue to list these mirrors but cannot vouch for their validity.

Rapidshare has time limits that make it impossible to download more than a couple of sets at a time. This is a terrible burden, especially on folks starting from scratch. Also, it takes twice as long to upload to two servers instead of one and I don't like sitting around staring at my PC. That's why I don't like Rapidshare so much. That said, if you'd been paying attention you would have noticed that all the recent uploads have been made to both MediaFire and Rapidshare. This is because, regardless of what's convenient for me, I recognize it's bad to have all our files in one basket. If you don't believe me, search the first post for "-or-".

I originally used Rapidshare BTW, before MF existed. I had something like 100 files up on their original server. Then they changed servers and lost every one of my files, and I never really recovered. That's why we have less files on RS, and another reason to use two servers. In time, I expect to have every file back up on RS again, which should help those people that have RS accounts, and those who have trouble with MF.

That edition is called Salvat of Pegasus (I've heard this before) and has a pagasus as it's rarity symbol. Are there any plans to get those cards and scan them?
