Aren't both functionally just sorceries with multikicker: ? Is there a rules-compliance reason these can't be implemented that way?

Ertai's Trickery would be able to counter it when it shouldn't... Rumbling Aftershocks (I'm not sure if this one is implemented yet) would trigger when it shouldn't. But I think that those are the only two cards that would be affected, unless there is some subtle difference between X costs and multikicker costs when looking at the combined mana cost of a spell.

.. unless there is some subtle difference between X costs and multikicker costs when looking at the combined mana cost of a spell.

There's actually a more subtle difference that has a larger effect. For cards that let you play spells without paying it's mana cost (like Mind's Desire) X gets set at 0, but you can still pay Optional Costs like Multikicker, making this interaction completely incorrect.
