Forge Beta: 08-03-2012 ver 1.2.11

(Quest icons used created by Teekatas, from his Legendora set http://raindropmemory.deviantart.com)

11034 cards in total.

An important notice to those who use the Mountain Lion OS

If you update your OS to Apple OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion and try to launch a new version of forge that you will likely get a dialog which states "File is damaged and cannot be opened. Please move to trash."

Mountain Lion comes with a new Gatekeeper feature and this is probably blocking your ability to launch this newer version of forge. Visit the link below and follow the instructions. They are fairly long and detailed.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Please note that the issue is most likely caused by Mountain Lion's Gatekeeper feature and it is extremely unlikely that the forge dev team will attempt to get a unique Developer ID from Apple and use it to digitally sign our forge app.

This version is primarily a maintenance release. We have a few new cards, bug fixes, tweaks and some AI improvements. We suggest that everyone should update to this version.

Some performance changes were made to Forge and it should now operate more quickly on low end machines. Mid to high level machines are unlikely to notice as much of a performance increase. We tried to hunt down all of the bugs that resulted from these changes but there may still be a bug or two in this beta release.

Development efforts continue but have slowed down as a result of the summer months. One of the devs is in the process of moving and this will have an impact on beta and snapshot release for a number of weeks.

The release date for version 1.2.12 will likely be late August or sometime in the month of September. Snapshot builds will likely be unavailable until sometime after the 1.2.12 beta release. We apologize for the inconvenience.

It seems like the front face of double faced cards aren't triggering properly, but the back face and single faced cards are.

Selecting a package of cards in the quest mode card shop will now once again display the packages in the card picture panel. The list of card names in the prebuilt decks are not displayed in the card detail panel at this time.

--

A recent contribution to the code base should fix some of the bugs that people noticed with cloning type abilities. At this time there are two remaining issues that we hope will be addressed in the near future.

1. Leave play triggers don't work correct for clones.
2. Copies of cards that setup Zone Change triggers via addComesIntoPlayCommand and addLeavesPlayCommand will not function correctly.

The work on the new UI is now finished. We should not expect major changes or major additions to the UI. Future betas may include a few minor bug fixes to the UI. And we may also include a few minor tweaks.

Some people have noticed special quests do not have the start in play cards appearing. And some people have noticed that a match can start without any cards appearing in the players hands or in their libraries. We hope to have this problem fixed at some point in the future.

We are now using a different system for our snapshot and beta releases. Unfortunately, this new system builds a jar file which does not accurately display the SVN revision number.

Forge may not be fully java 7 compatible at this time. We recommend that people downgrade to java 6.

--

The Forge archive includes a readme.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Many people helped with this version. A special thank you goes out to them. (Attempted to list names alphabetically):

Chris didn't mention it specifically, but there were a few more considerable fixes that deserve some shout out:

1) Flickering cards should now properly fizzle a spell/ability that was targeting it.
2) Planeswalkers can no longer be targeted directly, instead you must target the player and then redirect the damage to the Planeswalker.

Chris didn't mention it specifically, but there were a few more considerable fixes that deserve some shout out:

1. Loading time has been reduced by a number of times. ALL users will notice that, not only low-end machines owners.
2. The initial memory usage on start was reduced by 60%. (as measured in my pc, forge process takes under 400MB against 900MB with previous version ).

I'm running on OS X Mountain Lion and I get a dialog saying 'This file is damaged and cannot be opened.'

I'm not too sure if this is a problem with other Mac users as well.

Keep up the great work! :) <3 I love this program!

I have not yet updated to Mountain Lion and I am still using Lion.

I downloaded the new Mac version and extracted it OK.

Once you mount the dmg file by double clicking on the file named "forge-1.2.11.dmg" you must then copy the forge app to your HD. If you double click on the forge app located in this dmg file window the game will not fully launch and this could explain what you are seeing.

The forge app is working correctly for Lion as long as I copy/move the forge app from the dmg window over to my HD.

One more improvement that I think is cool:

The AI drafting and limited-format deckbuilding has been rebuilt, and the AI should be a tougher opponent to draft and play against.

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and downloaded the new version and I am getting the same error message. "File is damaged and cannot be opened. Please move to trash."

The previous version, installed before the update, runs okay on the new version of OSX.

Is there an issue with initialization of forge on the new Mountain Lion OS?

Thank you Max for these improvements. Some people have mentioned over the last few months that forge was somewhat slow and unresponsive on their machines.

For those who were having this type of a problem could you please try this new version and let us know if forge is now playing at an accetaible speed?

1.2.11 - when Enduring Renewal returns a creature card to my hand, I can't re-cast it. When I click on it, I get the red error flash in the lower left panel (just like when you click on a land card in your hand after youve already played one for the turn).

In case it matters, in my tests of this, the returned card was a sliver that I had sacrificed for an ability. It was usually a Metallic Sliver or Mindlash Sliver that got sacrificed to either the Basal Sliver or Necrotic Sliver sac ability (yup, it's annoying combo deck).
